Shri Anil Kumar Gupta, a graduate in Electrical Engineering from MNNIT, Allahabad (now Prayagraj ) had an illustrious career in Indian Railways and earned a rich experience of 38 years. He joined Indian Railways as IRSEE in 1980 batch, a Group ‘A’ service of Government of India. He superannuated from an apex grade post equivalent to Secretary Government of India. Last post he held was General Manager, Western Railway.
During service he held various important assignments in different zones including on Central Railway, Eastern Railway, West Central Railway, South Central Railway, North Central Railway, Western Railway and Research Designs & Standards Organization (RDSO). Amongst the assignments held were Executive Director, RDSO Lucknow, ED Inspection RDSO Bhopal, Chief Workshop Manager, Dahod, Western Railway, Chief Electrical Engineer Planning, Western Railway, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal Division of West Central Railway, Divisional Railway Manager, Jabalpur Division of West Central Railway, Chief Electrical Engineer, North Central Railway, Chief Safety Officer, Eastern Railway, Chief Electrical Engineer , Eastern Railway, Additional General Manager , South Central Railway, General Manager, Western Railway.
Demonstrated a strong history with result oriented output in the field of General Management, infrastructure development, project management. He has been an excellent administrator and innovator. He has keen interest in implementing new ideas whether in technical or managerial fields. His initiatives and in depth knowledge helped each department to perform their best. As such the individual departments were suitably awarded by the Ministry of Railway.
He has expertise in Design, manufacture, testing commissioning, maintenance & operation of complete Electric Rolling Stock (Loco, EMU, MEMU, and Metro), AC coaches, OHE, TSS and development of indigenous equipment for these systems. He , therefore, have been instrumental in preparation of more than 500 design documents for complete rolling stock its associated equipment and machinery required for workshops, depots viz Traction Batteries for Coaches and locomotives, Traction Motors, Traction Converters, Traction transformers for EMU/Metro, Inverters, Roof mounted air conditioner & its control system for AC Coaches & Metro, PA & PIS system for EMU/MEMU/Metro coaches, Regenerative type battery chargers, Ventilation system for EMU/Metro coaches, Propulsion systems for EMU/Metro trains/semi high speed trains, Hotel load system for trains; LED based luminaire for coaches & stations , Earthing system for Electrical installation; Escalators; solar pumps, grid connect solar generating system, etc.
Have also been associated in modernisation of workshops to augment maintenance capacities and World Bank funded projects for design development of three phase EMUs for Mumbai Suburban network.
Have vast experience in testing of individual equipment & systems in real field scenarios in India & abroad. Has been associated for oscillation trials at a speed of 180 kmph. He has visited countries like the USA, United Kingdom, Germany, China, France, Austria & Switzerland for technical studies, testing of equipment / system test of propulsion equipment for EMU coaches etc.
Associated in development of OLIVER G, a condition monitoring system for electric traction 25 kv overhead traction line.
His passion is to develop technology in India. As such contributed a lot in import substitution since the beginning of service and endeavored to develop multiple sources. Under Make in India initiative, He has been actively associated for Design, development, testing, trials and commissioning of India’s first Air-Conditioned EMU local train for Mumbai suburban. This has paved the way for manufacturing train sets in the country and Design, development, manufacture, testing & commissioning of fully air conditioned Metro Rolling stock for Kolkata Metro with 100% indigenous resources in 2010.
